• Florida East Coast, Port of Miami Lead

  Our newest project is at the Port of Miami.  

  Groundbreaking ceremony in downtown Miami for the new Florida East Coast was July 15, 2011.

Atlas Railroad Construction, LLC was selected to complete the restoration  of rail service between the port and the Florida East Coast Rail Yard in Hialeah, Fla.

  Construction to reinstate rail service at the Port of Miami  began today and was hailed as an economic engine that will bring 800 jobs and larger amounts of cargo.
  
  The $46.9-million Port of Miami-Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway Rail Reconnection Project will utilize the FEC right of way to link the port to the Hialeah rail yard, 6875 NW 58th St. The rail service project will include renovating FEC tracks and repairing a draw bridge to the island port that was rendered unusable by Hurricane Wilma.
  
  The project will help the port to handle additional cargo anticipated after the Panama Canal expansion is completed in 2014.

• Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad (G&W Entity)

  Description:

  • Replacement of 26,000 grade 5 cross ties spanning a FRA Class 5-90 track mile area including distribution, installation and proper disposal of old crossties, under traffic
  • Furnish and replace 30,000 LF of 132# continuous welded rail including thermite and flash butt welding, distribution, and installation 
  • Replacement of 1,580 each switch timbers
  • Complete rebuild of 19 each heavily used Pennsylvania Department of Transportation public road crossing with all associated detours, undercutting, track replacement, timber and asphalt installation

  Description:

  • Provide a 30 track mile second main line FRA Class A track

  • Installed approximately 45 public road crossings
  • Atlas performed all site grading work required to prepare track bed for sub ballast

  Description:

  • Replacement of 150,000 cross ties and tightened joints for over 75 miles

• North Carolina State Ports Authority

  Morehead City Terminal Rail and Pavement Repairs

  Description:

  • Rehabilitation of over 60% of the intermodal staging complex at the Ports of Morehead City, North Carolina.
  • Total demolition of track, asphalt, aggregate base for over 65,000 SY of the intermodal facilities. Installation of track, tongue and mate turnouts & dual gauge diamond crossing.
  • Installation of aggregate base, 6" cement stabilizer base and asphalt paving.
  • Replacement of all drainage facilities.
  • Atlas completed this project 200 days ahead of schedule with minimum impact to the Port's operation.

  Description:

All track construction and equipment adhered to all FRA Safety Regulation and Rules. Project scope including distribution, installation and proper disposal of old crossties, under traffic. Ties were removed so as not to disturb the existing line and surface of the rail. All new installed ties were tamped daily, to keep the rail supported by ballast.

Ties were removed so as not to disturb the existing line and surface of the rail. All new installed ties were tamped daily, to keep the rail supported by ballast.
  • All Atlas supervisors were qualified on On-Track Safety, L&I Operating and CWR Rules, CFR Part 213, Track Safety Standards, Sections 213.7 A&B and Emergency Order 24 Switch Position Awareness Form.

Ties were removed so as not to disturb the existing line and surface of the rail. All new installed ties were tamped daily, to keep the rail supported by ballast.
  • All ties were stockpiled and disposed off Railroad property in a timely and efficient manner.
  • All equipment complies with FRA equipment rules and employees are qualified under Roadway Worker Protection.

  Description:

  • Unloading, distribution and installation of 348,500 LF of 1400 & 1600’ strings of continuous welded rail per FRA standards.
  • Atlas furnished and distributed all otm for project. Areas of installation Kent (Canadian border) south to Brownville and west to Jackman Station, ME. 
  • All track construction and equipment adhered to all FRA Safety Regulation and Rules. All rail was dismantled, joints and otm sorted and placed in stockpile at Railroad location.
  • Furnished and completed over 200 thermite welds with UT testing.
  • The projects were completed on schedule and within budget, even though weather and rail deliveries were challenging.
  • All equipment complies with FRA equipment rules and employees are qualified under Roadway Worker Protection Services also included the spot tamper and regulator in rail gang.

  Description:

  • Furnished, unloaded, distributed and installed 8850 7” IG cross ties per FRA standards. Atlas furnished and distributed all otm for project. Areas of installation were in Paris and Dresden TN. All track construction and equipment adhered to all FRA Safety Regulation and Rules. Ties were removed so as not to disturb the existing line and surface of the rail. All new installed ties were tamped daily, to keep the rail supported by ballast. Services also included the spot tamper and regulator in rail gang.
  • Furnish & placed 24,000 ton of AREA #4 Ballast prior to surfacing line.
  • Furnished, unloaded, distributed and installed 3,500 LF of new 115RE rail including 35 field welds with UT testing.
  • Atlas surfaced, lined and tamped 39 track miles utilizing state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Atlas performed all site work, track construction, and material to rehabilitate 284 FT of roadway crossings.

Ties were removed so as not to disturb the existing line and surface of the rail. All new installed ties were tamped daily, to keep the rail supported by rail. Services also included the spot tamper and regulator in rail gang. All old ties were stockpiled and then disposed off of the Railroad property.

  Description :  

  • The state chose Atlas to rebuild this critical 56 mile rail link to facilitate freight passenger service bordering the Eastern shore line.
  • Atlas worked for two years to changeout existing 85#-100# jointed rail with 115# CWR.
  • Approximately 80,000 cross ties were replaced, along with 40 public road crossings and several rail bridges over environmentally sensitive rivers and streams.

  Maintenance Gangs 2011

  Atlas has provided maintenance crews for the Indiana & Ohio Railroad for over nine years. The crews consist of boom truck, backhoe and trailer along with a complete assortment of hydraulic and standard track tools. The Ohio-based crews are located in Cincinnati, Washington Courthouse, Lima and Springfield.

The crews consist of boom truck, backhoe and trailer along with a complete assortment of hydraulic and standard track tools. The crews are located in Lima, Ohio, Fort Wayne and Warsaw, Indiana.

• New England Central Vermonter Project - Rail

  Continuously Welded Rail Installation

  Atlas installed close to 90 track miles of continuously welded rail between ST Albans, Vermont and the Massachusetts border. The work included plate and OTM distribution as well as removing old rail, installing plugging compound, laying and distressing of new rail strings. The work was completed within seven working months. The work took place on RailAmerica’s New England Central Railroad.

• New England Central Vermonter Project - Bridge

  The work included various repair to over 44 bridges on RailAmerica’s New England Central Railroad. Work on this project included the design and installation of over 1700 bridge timbers inclusive of walkway and handrail installation. Other repairs made were the refacing of abutment walls and piers on three bridges, bent and stringer repairs, post tensioning, bearing replacement, pile posting and cap replacement.

  The work included installation of over 90,000 ties, 100,000 feet of rail, over 200 miles of surfacing and 50 grade crossings.  The work took place on the following Railroads:
